| LIFE IN THE CITY
Life in the City. A man wakes up to beeps and noises of the streets. After work he comes home, spends relaxing time, enjoying the night sky with twinkling neon lights. And he goes to sleep as the city closes its eyes. On weekends he strolls around town, enjoys his hobbies, or invites friends over to spend refreshing moments together. In the middle of the city he can freely experience the dynamism of urban activities, away from claustrophobia of residential areas and sense of alienation in the suburbs.
In our proposal we intend to fully enhance such life in the city. We designed the floor as extended street, ceiling as extended sky, and the space between them as the resident's “city”. Bathroom, kitchen counter, closets, free space and bed space are placed as urban elements within the “city”. Borders between these elements are defined loosely by freestanding walls and furniture at various heights, to create the sense of wholeness of space. The plan with L-shaped “free-space” allows for flexibility and adaptability, so that the resident can adapt the way he uses the space according to changes in his life style. Each element offers various ways of use, according to time of the day.
We hope to create a place for urban living, which opens directly towards the city in time and space.
